Free Twitter Birds

Twitter birds - click to see the whole collection

A few months ago, I was twittering with Chris Coyier of CSS-Tricks and he asked if I could make him a little Twitter bird which he could use on his blog to link to his Twitter account (up till this point he’d been borrowing the Twitterrific icon). I said yes, because I thought it would be fun. Next thing I knew, I went a little overboard and designed a whole flock of them. Twenty-four to be exact (click here to see the full collection). There are six different styles, each done in four different colours: Twitter blue, Cardinal Red, Robin Black, and Canary Yellow. Now here they all are, free, for your downloading pleasure. (I’m releasing them under this Creative Commons license.)

The ZIP file below contains four five files:

  • an unflattened vector version
  • a flattened vector version
  • a large PNG version
  • NEW! A flattened EPS file, saved down to Illustrator 8
  • and a “read me” file

Download: Latulippe_Twitter_Birds_archive.zip

You can edit them to your heart’s content, just send a friendly linky-link back to my site to spread the word (preferably to this post’s URL). When redistributing, whether you modify them or not, all I ask is the following:

  • Please do not remove the copyright notice
  • Please do not try to pass them off as your own
  • Please do not sell them, individually or as a set
  • Please do not transfer them onto merchandise or any products which you intend to sell, for example:
    • printing them onto t-shirts you’re selling online: NO
    • printing one onto a t-shirt or sticker for personal use: YES!
    • using them as a logo or as part of a product branding: NO
    • using them on your blog: YES!
    • using them as avatars on services other than Twitter: YES!
    • using them in a book that is about social media: YES!

Essentially, this means they’re for personal use, not commercial use.

Whatever you end up doing with them, please post a link to it below in the comments; I’d really love to see them in action, as well as see what sweet new bird you turned them into.

I don’t speak this Tweet language so I showed these to my coworker who speaks it fluently. She said these were gorgeous and asked if these can be used/adapted for iphones cause she would love to use them.

Just thought I would pass on the love and questions.

Hope you boys are doing well up there in the north.

hiya Kyle! How’s life? :)

I don’t have an iPhone myself, so I’m not entirely sure what’s being asked in that regard. If she wants an icon to use for her iPhone’s dashboard, then sure, they can work in this regard too. Actually, I should create some of the birds as iPhone icons and post them here too. If anyone can spare details about them, please drop me a link!

Funny, I had just finished an assignment about Twitter and since I don’t use it I was very confused with the amount of different versions I got when I Googled their logo. Dig all your versions, Luc.
Hope all is well with you, bud.

This is awesome! I might modify the bottom one so I can cut it out in vinyl and display my company twitter name on my car :-) Thanks so much for being so generous with your vectors. Us vinyl cutters appreciate not having to recreate the wheel.

Love the designs. You don’t want us to sell the designs but is it acceptable to use your designs, with attribution, in an ebook which is for sale?

Picture of Highnam Highnam

I used one of your designs as my Twitter photo.

I can’t find a way of recording your link with the photo other than by making a Twitter update noting your link and acknowledging your copyright.

Any suggestions.

I think it looks great so I’d prefer not to have to take it down.

Thanks for the beautiful birds!!! I’m new to twitter and blogging- it’ll probably take me a little while to figure it all out- but I just couldn’t pass ‘em up! Thanks!

@marilyn: Awesome! Send a photo when you’re done, I’d love to see it! :)
@Tom Gray: That sounds perfectly fine. What I meant above is about selling a product, like a t-shirt, where the bird illustrations might be the main reason for buying the product. Based on your website, I gather this is a book on social media? Send a link to it when you’ve posted it!
@Highnam: That’s totally fine :) Send a link over when it’s up.

@Maggie: Thanks for pointing that out! I’ve corrected this by uploading a new ZIP file which includes a flattened EPS saved down to version 8 - Enjoy!

Thanks for these designs.

A question: is it allowed to use these as a graphic icons (or other) in a free, open source, desktop Tweeter client programmed by a friend of mine (with a reference to this blog, of course)?
I’m trying to make some skin for the application and those designs might come handy for that.

Thanks

Thanks a lot Luc.
You can test the app on the following link:
http://code.google.com/p/qtwitdget/

The info on Google Code is in Macedonian language (for now).
The application is based on QT technology, still in beta (but working) and of course need some facelift.

Thanks again.

Hello Luc,

I love your little Twitter Birds and wrote a post about them a few weeks ago and linked:

http://boatinginbeautifulbritishcolumbia.com/?p=2510

My friend and I are writing an ebook and I’d like to know if you will approve of us using one of your birds as a graphic on the cover of the book and on a banner advertising the book?

Of course we will give you full credit in the ebook with a link and text such as this (or of your choosing):

“We are very grateful to Luc LaTulippe for his design skills and generosity in permitting us to use his illustration of the Twitter Bird on the front cover.  To view more of his work please visit http://www.luclatulippe.com.”

Thanks so much for your consideration and your wonderful artistic work!
