Although their site is very much NOT SAFE FOR WORK (thus my not linking to it!), Big Muscle was social networking years before it was called social networking. Think Facebook for the gay community, but without all the extra junk (no pun intended). They’re now celebrating their 10th anniversary, so owners Bill and Andy contacted me about giving their logo a facelift.
From the start, the Big Muscle community has always been one of fun, friendly, and inclusive—more about making and meeting actual friends, than cruising. This completely reflects the owners’ personalities. Attend any Big Muscle party during Pride week, and you’ll see: it’s all friendly smiles and rib-crushing bear hugs. It seemed natural to draw on that spirit to come up with something equally big, friendly, warm, and fun.
And, if you remember the Big Jim dolls (er, action figures!) from the 1970s, you may notice where I took another part of my inspiration from.
